In December 2024, Pekin Insurance IT Department donated 303 laptops to families in need through Compudopt, a nonprofit organization founded in 2007, with a mission to provide technology access and education to under-resourced youth. To date, it has distributed over 78,790 devices to students in need, delivered over 239,000 hours of technology education to over 82,947 students, connected over 4,500 households to the Compudopt Internet Network, and diverted 698.9+ tons of computer hardware from landfills. Compudopt has programs in 19 states and 40 cities.
Dan Connell, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Pekin Insurance, stated, "As a company committed to making a positive impact, we are honored to support Compudopt’s mission to bridge the digital divide. By donating these laptops, we’re not only empowering families with the tools they need for education and growth but also contributing to a sustainable future by repurposing technology that might otherwise go to waste. Together, we can create opportunities that change lives and strengthen communities."
