Notice Regarding Medicare Supplement Policyholders

On February 21, 2024, CHANGE HEALTHCARE, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, suffered a cyberattack. Change Healthcare is a clearinghouse for Pekin Life Insurance, assisting with the transmission of electronic Medicare Supplement claims from Medicare to Pekin Life. As a result of their cyberattack, Pekin Life Insurance Company was not receiving electronic claims from Medicare.
Update as of 6/14/24: We have now made connection! On June 14th, a secure electronic connection was reestablished and we are now receiving electronic Medicare Supplement claims from Medicare, including all backlog files from 2/21/24 as well as current day files. The backlog files will take approximately 6 weeks to fully load into our system. These claims will be processed as quickly as possible. Processing these claims electronically is the fastest approach to returning to standard processing time and getting payments made promptly. As a result, we will no longer accept paper claim submissions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we move forward. Neither policyholders or providers should generally have to submit claims. We should receive your claims automatically from Medicare once they have processed your claims. To be clear, this was not a breach of Pekin Insurance, rather this was a cyberattack against Change Healthcare.
